€400M Antofagasta Wind Farm Begins Power Production in Chile

Repsol has officially launched electricity production at Antofagasta Phase 1, its largest wind energy project to date and one of the biggest renewable facilities in Chile. Located in Taltal in the Antofagasta region, the 364 MW wind farm represents a €400 million investment and a key milestone in Repsol’s independent renewable energy expansion in Latin America.

“This is the first renewable project developed entirely by Repsol in Chile,” the company stated, highlighting the project’s significance in its broader energy transition strategy.

Constructed over 19 months, the wind farm is expected to enter full commercial operation in the coming weeks. Once fully online, it will generate approximately 750 GWh of electricity per year—enough to power 220,000 Chilean homes with clean, renewable energy.

The Antofagasta development marks a shift for Repsol, which had previously pursued renewable ventures in Chile through joint ownership, such as Cabo Leones III (188 MW) and Atacama (166 MW) with Ibereólica Renovables Group. In contrast, both phases of the Antofagasta wind farm are wholly owned by Repsol, underscoring its growing independence in the renewable sector.

Phase 2 of the project, which will add another 450 MW of capacity, is already underway. Together, both phases will significantly boost Repsol’s presence in Chile’s renewable energy landscape and contribute to the country’s decarbonization goals.

Globally, Repsol operates nearly 4,000 MW of renewable capacity and maintains a robust pipeline of 60,000 MW in development. The Antofagasta project reinforces the company’s commitment to scaling low-carbon energy production and securing its role in the global energy transition.
