The number of companies achieving an “A” score in at least one category in the CDP’s 2024 annual environmental assessment surged by 30%, according to a recent report. However, these top-performing companies still represented just 2% of all firms that disclosed their environmental data through the system.
CDP, a global environmental disclosure platform, helps investors and stakeholders track company performance on critical sustainability areas such as climate, water security, and forest conservation. In 2024, more than 22,700 companies participated in the disclosure process, an 8% increase from the previous year. The majority of these companies (98%) received climate scores, while 6,500 received water scores, and 1,600 were evaluated on their forest-related efforts.
For the 2024 disclosure cycle, CDP awarded “A” List status to 515 companies, up from 396 in 2023. Of these, 462 companies earned A scores for climate, a 33% increase from the previous year, and 133 companies achieved A scores for water security, a 32% rise. The number of companies on the Forests A List saw a slight decline, dropping from 30 in 2023 to 26 in 2024.
