The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) have entered a strategic partnership aimed at scaling sustainable infrastructure investments globally. The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed by AIIB President Jin Liqun and NIB President and CEO André Küüsvek, marks a significant collaboration to advance low-carbon development and address global infrastructure needs.
“Formalizing this partnership with the Nordic Investment Bank marks an important step forward,” said Jin Liqun. “It underscores our shared vision of advancing sustainable development and tackling global challenges through collective action. Together, we aim to expand access to sustainable infrastructure financing, foster inclusive growth, and accelerate the shift to a low-carbon future.”
The agreement will focus on identifying and financing joint sustainable projects, with a shared commitment to addressing climate change and promoting clean technology. This partnership will also include the exchange of knowledge and best practices across various operational areas, including governance, human resources, IT, and legal services. Joint research on clean technologies and climate change mitigation will also be a key focus.
This collaboration is expected to extend beyond the Nordic region, aligning with AIIB’s global sustainability mandate, while leveraging NIB’s expertise in financing projects that benefit both productivity and the environment. The partnership aims to enhance access to financing for infrastructure that will contribute to sustainable economic growth across the world.
“Our primary mandate has been to finance projects enhancing productivity and benefiting the environment in the Nordic region,” said André Küüsvek. “However, this collaboration with AIIB marks a new chapter in our global engagement for sustainable economic growth and infrastructure development.”
With both institutions combining their resources, this partnership is set to provide a powerful platform for driving the global transition to low-carbon and sustainable infrastructure.
