In a major step toward decarbonizing the transport sector, Aramco and Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD have entered into a strategic alliance to accelerate innovation in energy-efficient and low-emission vehicle technologies. The partnership is anchored by a Joint Development Agreement between Saudi Aramco Technologies Company (SATC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aramco, and BYD, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of new energy vehicles and batteries.
The collaboration focuses on joint research and development efforts to enhance powertrain systems, develop lower-carbon fuels, and explore scalable solutions that support a more practical energy transition. By combining Aramco’s expertise in energy systems with BYD’s leadership in electrification and battery technology, the alliance aims to deliver high-performance, low-emission alternatives for the global mobility market.
This joint initiative is designed to contribute to global decarbonization targets while addressing growing demand for sustainable transport solutions.
“This work stems from our belief that multiple approaches are necessary to support a practical energy transition,” said Ali A. Al-Meshari, Senior Vice President of Technology Oversight & Coordination at Aramco.
The alliance represents a convergence of advanced energy and automotive innovation, positioning both companies at the forefront of next-generation mobility solutions.
